About CHIPSA

CHIPSA / Gerson Hospital / Gerson Medical Center
We are known as the Gerson Hospital

CHIPSA (Centro Hospitalario Internacional del Pacifico, S.A.) is a full service community hospital, within the ocean-front suburb of Playas de Tijuana. Since its inception-1979, CHIPSA has utilized Gerson's integrative medical practices, becoming a world renowned hospital in Mexico.

Our founding legacy, Gerson Therapy, represents the original medical practices of immuno-nutrition therapy developed by Max B. Gerson, M.D. (the founder of immune-nutrition). Dr. Gerson was known for his many contributions to address chronic, degenerative and infectious disease, as well as, the documentation and remission of cancer.

Institution's History

Dr. Gerson’s diet therapy was first introduced in Mexico around 1977, with the dedication of several beds at the Hospital La Gloria. Both the treatment’s initial successes and demand prompted the opening of a second facility in 1979, the Hospital Jardines de la Mesa. The economic downturn of the 1980’s led to the merging of these two facilities. Following a major fire that seriously damaged the La Gloria facility, a temporary location was established at Hospital Del Sol in Playas de Tijuana. Within five years, the medical practice moved to its current location, Centro Hospitalario Internacional del Pacifico, S.A. (CHIPSA), a full service community hospital, where it has made its home for nearly twenty years.

During this time, the cancer therapy developed by Dr. Max Gerson has remained the nutritional foundation for the management of numerous cancers and other chronic and degenerative diseases. Modern chemoprevention research into phytochemicals has led to a more precise understanding and refinement of the needed approach. Today, the seminal contributions of Dr. Gerson continues to advance. The important vaccine-based immunotherapy has come of age, because of its ability to   improve the human body's immune system responsiveness.

The Collaboration

The medical institution of the CHIPSA Hospital collaborated with the Gerson Institute from 1979-1996, nearly18 years. By 1996, Dr. Charlotte Gerson, the only child of Dr. Max Gerson, chose to pursue other options, that did not include a singular diet based treatment.  In spite of Dr. Max Gerson’s endorsement of vaccine-based immunotherapies, the Gerson Institute was unsupportive of the therapy. With conflicting principles, CHIPSA and the Gerson Research Organization (GRO) moved immediately to follow Dr. Max Gerson’s suggestion to integrate diet therapy with the Coley Fluid.

Shortly thereafter, Dr. Josef Issels joined CHIPSA and GRO to establish a methodology for integrative immunotherapy. Their focus would include cancer and other chronic, degenerative, inflammatory diseases. After Dr. Issels’ death in 1998, CHIPSA and GRO researchers continued to pursue this approach.  As of today, both facilities are incorporating new findings, as they are discovered.

In an effort to reach out to the cancer community, our staff organizes educational lectures on the benefits of an immune enhanced lifestyle. CHIPSA also broadcasts educational videos worldwide, and in-hospital instructional activities for patients and their companions. CHISPA offers relatives and friends a opportunity to help by encouraging them to stay with their loved ones for spiritual support in our companion stay facilities.
